Kwibuka 29 | As we commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi "You're Not Alone"

Today, the United Nations System in Rwanda joins Rwandans and the entire world community to commence the commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi under the theme: “Remember-Unite-Renew”. As we start this period, it is imperative to remember the more than one million innocent lives that we lost in one of the darkest moments of human history, a call to the world to unite around the same resolve of “Never again”, and to renew our collective commitment to fighting genocide denial and any genocide ideologies that may lead to genocide anywhere in the world. On behalf of the United Nations Family in Rwanda, I would like to tell all survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, the government of Rwanda, and Rwandans in general, that “You’re Not Alone” We are together in this period and we shall continue to be together.
